The Pfalzwerke Aktiengesellschaft and Schott Solar entered into a joint venture, the “PFALZSOLAR GmbH”. At that time, PFALZSOLAR was a special purpose vehicle for the development, construction and operation of photovoltaic power plants.

In 2003, PFALZSOLAR constructs its first utility scale solar park: With a total capacity of 2.0 MW the “Solar park Neustadt” in the south west of Germany was one of the first large scale pv power plants at that time. Till now, PFALZSOLAR is owning a part of the solar park and is, furthermore, responsible for the operation and maintenance of the whole plant.

In 2008, the Pfalzwerke Aktiengesellschaft acquired the remaining shares of PFALZSOLAR and became the sole shareholder.

PFALZSOLAR and the world’s largest manufacturer of thin-film solar modules, FirstSolar, signed a framework agreement. Until 2012, PFALZSOLAR purchased thin-film solar modules with a total capacity of 40 Megawatt for own large scale pv projects and for trade.

In 2015, PFALZSOLAR completes two large scale PV projects with a total capacity of 18 MW in Great Britain. In 2016, we’ve put six more projects into operation. All in all, we’ve connected PV power plants with an overall capacity of nearly 50 MW to the grid. Half of those projects were co called “Community Energy” projects, which are supported and refinanced by residents of local communities.

Together with PFALZSOLAR, BASF and the “Technische Universität Kaiserslautern” (Technical University of Kaiserslautern), the Pfalzwerke Netz AG is testing for the first time a large scale energy storage system. The project partners installed a lithium-ion-battery at the solar park Landstuhl, which has been put into operation by Pfalzsolar in 2013. The storage system is located inside a sea freight container and has a capacity of 250 kWp. The system is able to storage up to 230 kilowatthours.

At the end of September 2016, PFALZSOLAR founded a U.S. subsidiary, the PFALZSOLAR Incorporated. The new company has its registered office in Atlanta, Georgia, and was mainly founded for processing the project business in the U.S market.

On August 17th, DEKRA officially presented two certificates to PFALZSOLAR which attest that the company’s Quality and Environmental Management System corresponds to the ISO 9001 and 14001 standards.

In 2017, PFALZSOLAR entered two new markets: In the Netherlands, the company is offering project development, EPC and O&M services for large scale PV rooftop installations and ground mounted power plants. In addition, PFALZSOLAR is realizing PV power plants for residentials in the Netherlands. In Mallorca, PFALZSOLAR is also planning and contstructing PV power plants for private house owners.

With a capacity of 34 megawatt peak, the Almere solar park ‘Zuyderzon Almere’ in the Dutch province of Flevoland is one of the largest in the country. PFALZSOLAR prevailed against numerous international competitors in a call for tenders and won the contract to implement the large-scale project.

PFALZSOLAR Inc. has been developing its project development in the USA since 2016 and is celebrating its first major success. The fully developed “Fine Farms” project with an output of 4.8 MW was sold a few days ago to an American investor.
